Occupational therapy can assist older adults maintaining or regaining function to live as independently through comprehensive assessments and recommendations
Interventions such Home Modifications, Assistive Technology and therapy services
Assistive technology and home modifications includes:
Mobility aides, bathroom aides such as commodes, shower chairs and redesign to widen doorways for wheelchair access, grab rails, ramps and non-slip surfaces are examples of home modifications
DVA white and gold card holders are eligible to access therapy, home modifications and equipment through the Rehab Appliance Program (RAP). DVA’s RAP provides a wide range of products and services. A GP referral is needed to access Occupational Therapy services under the RAP. The aim of RAP is to restore or maintain your independence and to minimise disability or dysfunction, items available include:
Assistive aids such as wheeled walkers, beds (hospital), chairs (high back, lift), lifting hoists, showering or toileting aids, pressure care, powered and manual wheelchairs and mobility scooters
Personal hygiene - including continence products and bidets
Therapeutic aids including compression stockings & limb/hand therapy products
Home modifications (hand rails, modifications to bathrooms & home access)
